How Kevin Bacon Became the Center of Hollywood

Not Hot Enough for Footloose

Who didn’t look for a warehouse to let off some steam after watching Bacon on Footloose? To be fair, he wasn’t the one dancing in that scene, but still, his role in the classic ‘80s movie remains one of his most memorable ones to date. Surprisingly, the studio’s executive, Dawn Steel, didn’t want to hire him at first.

His reason? Bacon wasn’t enough of a Hollywood heartthrob, in his opinion. He preferred someone like Tom Cruise or Rob Lowe for the part of Ren. But the movie’s producer had faith in the young actor, and after a series of dance rehearsals, he knew Bacon was the one.
