The story begins in Seabrook Island, South Carolina. A poor quarry worker named Noah Calhoun falls in love with heiress Allison Hamilton. The two had a classic summer love affair, but since they came from different social classes, their love is forbidden. Allie’s parents move her to Charleston after they caught her with Noah, and did everything in their power to keep them separated.

He thought Allie no longer loved him and enlisted to fight in World War II. What he didn’t know was that Allie never got the letters.
