Meeting, War, and Marriage
Isabell Whitney and Preble Staver met each other in Philadelphia on a blind date. Right after, the two of them signed up to fight in the war. Preble enlisted as a marine, and Isabell was a Navy nurse stationed in Maryland. Preble earned a bronze star for his time serving the country. Once the war was finally declared over, the pair found their way back to each other.
On February 15th, 1946, Preble and Isabell got married. Preble worked as a lobbyist and a banker, so the couple moved around the country for his job. In 1975, the couple was living in Naples, Florida, when they suffered a terrible tragedy. Their son Peter died during his last football game as a high school senior.
