McFarland, the 26-year-old founder of the Fyre Festival, was sentenced to six years in prison. Oh, and he also faces a $26 million penalty.

But why? How could a seemingly harmless musical festival end up in such a disaster? Well, there isn’t one simple answer. The truth is that it was the result of a string of unfortunate events, events mainly caused by McFarland’s lack of knowledge of what it really takes to produce a festival.
