Next time you go grocery shopping, look through the cheese aisle and take a gander at the parmesan cheeses. You’ll see that parmesan cheese is one of the pricier kinds. It’s more than double the price of your average cheddar. A wheel of parmesan cheese can cost over $1,000! Why? Well, there’s a whole process involved.

A single wheel of the cheese takes at least one year to age with 31 gallons of milk to make. It also can only be made in a restricted area in northern Italy, in the region of Emilia Romagna.
